Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the practice of adjusting the way a web page is written in order to increase its search engine rank for certain key search phrases.

In order to achieve a high page rank for certain keywords it is important to use all of the following practices:

• Use semantic HTML with heading tags for the content
• Use short URL's that contain the desired keywords
• Use the description meta tag to control how your page is described in the search listing
• Use a Google Sitemap to make sure that search engines find all of your pages
• Use noindex meta tags for pages on your site that are not directly related to the significant content.  Examples would include the "Content" page, as well as terms and conditions, privacy policy, etc.
• Use <strong> tags and <em> tags to emphasize keywords in your content.
• Put a canonical URL link in your page header if it is dynamically generated.
• Use a favorites icon to make your site stand out in bookmark lists.
• Encourage other people to link to your content.
